Just like its economy, the Chinese yuan is going completely digital – and that's not a hypothetical.
Since 2014, China's central bank has been developing its digital version of the yuan called the Digital Currency Electronic Payment (“DCEP”).
Its goal is to function exactly like cash, even when there's no internet connection. And just like paper currency, it's completely centralized and controlled by the central bank…
But once the digital yuan is launched, it will give the Chinese government a huge amount of much power over every aspect of their citizens' lives.
